CALCULATOR GUIDE
How to use the UK salary calculator
Enter the information you already know, leave anything irrelevant switched off, and the result will update immediately.
Enter your gross pay
Type your pay before Income Tax and other deductions. Select annual, monthly, four-weekly, fortnightly, weekly, daily or hourly. Hourly and daily pay are converted to an annual estimate using your working pattern.
Choose your tax details
Select the tax year and whether you live in Scotland. The standard default tax code is 1257L. If your payslip shows another code, enter it for a closer estimate.
Add bonus or overtime
Open Advanced options. Enter an annual or one-off bonus, plus your usual overtime hours, hourly rate and working weeks. These additions are included in gross taxable pay.
Add pension contributions
Choose salary sacrifice, net pay or relief at source, then select full pay or qualifying earnings. Ask your employer or pension provider if you are unsure which arrangement applies.
Select student loans
Choose Plan 1, 2, 4 or 5. You can also add a Postgraduate Loan. Payroll normally deducts only one undergraduate plan, but a Postgraduate Loan can run alongside it.
Read your result
Compare annual, monthly, weekly and daily figures. Payslip-style view rounds each component to pennies; annualised view divides the exact annual result.
What should you expect?
The calculator estimates Income Tax, employee National Insurance, selected pension contributions and student-loan repayments. It is designed for planning and comparison, not as a replacement for your employer’s payroll record.
